A resume of important activities of Department of Heavy Industry for the month of December, 2004

 

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL)

 

·        Won  turnkey contract being funded by the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC),  valued at Rs. 1198 crore from West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited  for setting up two units of 210 MW each at Bakreswar Thermal Power Station (TPS) in West Bengal.

 

·        Won an order valued at Rs. 410 crore to set up a 250 (2x125) MW captive power plant at Jindal Stainless limited (JSL)’s upcoming project in Orissa

 

·        Secured a turnkey substation contract valued at Rs. 30 crores from Uttaranchal Power Corporation Ltd. (UPCL) for setting up a new 220 kV grid substation at Pantnagar in Uttaranchal

 

·        Established world class ‘Centres of Excellence’ for Computational Fluid Dynamics and Stimulators at Corporate R and D in Hyderabad to cater to a wide variety of products of the power and industry Sector.

 

·        Declared an all time high interim dividend of 35% on equity for fiscal year 2004-05 as against an interim dividend of 30% paid last year.

 

·        Contributed Rs. 1 crore to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the victims in the Tsunami-affected States.

 

HINDUSTAN SALTS LIMITED (HSL)

·        As per the policy of the Govt. towards public sector, one PSE of this Department namely Hindustan Salts Ltd. was placed before the Board for Reconstruction of Public Sector Enterprises on 24.12.2004 for recommendations on the future of the Company.

 

HMT Ltd.

·        Executives of Company along with Department of Heavy Industry officials had discussions with the Indo-Czech Joint Delegation regarding exploring the possibility of technical cooperation for the manufacture of tractors and bearings.

 

·        A delegation led by His Excellency Mr. Thura U Thaung Lwin, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Railways, Myanmar had discussions with the company regarding modernisation of railways at Myanmar and later visited machine tools manufacturing factory at Bangalore. 

 

Performance of major PSEs under DHI.

          A brief tabular statement on the performance of some of  the major PSEs under DHI is enclosed. (Annex.).  It shows that the growth in production was 13.25% as compared to overalll industrial growth of 8.4% in April-October, 2004.
