HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Shri Manohar Joshi, Union Minister of Heavy Industries & Public enterprises, laid the foundation stone of the new state-of-the-art Blade Shop at BHEL’s Hardwar plant. The Hon’ble Minister also flagged off the first of the four 159 MW ISO rating Gas Turbine Generating units for Baiji Power Project at Salah –Aldeen Governorate in Iraq. This is the highest rating power plant equipment ever to be exported from India.
  2. Bharat Pumps & Compressors (BPC) has successfully accomplished the task to design, manufacture, assemble and test the large size low pressure gas compressors for ONGC.
  3. BPC secured order for 8 Nos. Emergency Core Circulation Pump Motor Unit Model- VB with 460 KW Motor and 4 Nos. Fueling Machine supply pump motor Unit Model- 336–P with 132 KW Motor worth Rs.85 Million from Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited for Tarapur 3, 4 project.
  4. BPC secured a prestigious orders for 4 Nos. reciprocating plunger pump packages for ASP injection plant at Viraj field, ONGC Ahmedabad model-A334 H alongwith 75 KW motor and spares worth Rs.95 lacs against stiff competition.
  5. Bharat Heavy Plates & Vessels Ltd. (BHPV) received an order from Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), Mumbai, for fabrication and supply of 45 Nos. Heat Exchangers at a value of Rs.1991 lakh. This orders was secured against stiff competition from Private and Public Sector Unit.
  6. BHPV secured order for one 130 tonnes per hour capacity High Pressure Oil Fired Boiler from M/s Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited ( CPCL), Chennai for a value of Rs.42 crore.
  7. BHPV received a prestigious order from M/s Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd., Mumbai for their Refinery Modernisation Project for fabrication and supply of Atmospheric Column and Vacuum Column along with internals for a value of Rs. 35 crore. These equipments are to be fabricated, supplied and erected within a tight delivery schedule of 16/18.
  8. Tungabhadra Streel Products Ltd. (TSP) commissioned a 220 Tonne capacity EOT Crane designed & manufactured by them at Srisailam left Bank Power Station Downstream intake gates site for Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited.
  9. Bridge & Roof Ltd. (B&R) secured an orders valued at Rs.24.25 crore from Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd., for Design, Engineering, Procurement, Fabrication, construction of Foundation for 10 Nos. Tank, Tank Pads, Erection, Testing, Painting, Insulation & Commissioning of floating, Cone and Cone cum floating Roof Tanks for CPCL Refinery –III Expansion Project at Manali.
  10. B&R was entrusted with the task of four laning (13Kms) and strengthening (35 Kms) totalling 48 Km of NH-9 National Highway from Nandigama Viajaywada at a total cost of Rs. 72 crore. The project has been funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).This was dedicated to the nation by Major General B.C. Khanduri, AVSM (Retd). Hon’ble Minister of state for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.
  11. B&R secured prestigious order valued at Rs. 14.50 crore from Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Baroda for design, supply, erection and commissioning of Flare Stack System at Gujarat Refinery.
  12. Triveni Structural Ltd. (TSL) handed over 114.5 M self supporting steel TV Tower to Doordarshan at Shantiniketan (W.B).
  13. TSL successfully completed fabrication of BTPN wagon against Railway Board Development Order. RDSO, Lucknow have passed the proto type recently.
  14. HMT (I) Ltd. participated in India –Malaysia Technology Show held at Kuala Lumpur on 14 & 15th May 2001 during the visit of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Malaysia.
  15. HMT(I) Ltd., secured a contract valued at Rs. 22.50 crore for the revival of Nigeria Machine Tools (NMT) Ltd., Nigeria.The MoU between the two countries and the Agreement between Government of India and the Company were concluded on 14th September, 2001 at Abuja, Nigeria and New Delhi, India.
  16. The Hon’ble Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Shri Manohar Joshi, launched a new Tractor model No. 4922 on 19th September, 2001 at HMT’s Plant Pinjore, Chandigarh.
  17. HMT Ltd, Bangalore has signed an agreement with the Ministry of External Affairs in respect of the Government of India project for reviving and modernisation of Nigerian Machine Tools (NMT) Ltd. Oshogbo as a part of cooperative activities undertaken by India under G-15, HMT would supply machines and equipment costing US$ 5 million for a period of 18 months. HMT will also train NMT personnel and depute Indian expert to NMT for trial production, on job training and transfer.
  18. Burnpur Works of Burn Standard Co. Ltd. obtained ISO-9002 accredition during the year for production of wagon. Howrah works also obtained ISO 9002 accredition during the year for production of both Wagons and Foundry items like, CMS Crossing, Bogies, Couplers etc.
  19. Braithwaite & Co. Ltd. (BCL) received prestigious ISO-9002 certificate for marketing and manufacturing of wagons for all the three units. It is the only company having ISO 9002 certificate among the wagon builders(both public and private sectors) in India. Company ‘s Clive Works has applied for ISO 9002 Certification for structural fabrication.
  20. BBJ received the following major orders:

  1. Order for construction of all the 11 nos. bridges for Tamluk –Digha new BG link project.
  2. Order for construction of three major bridges over river Torsha, Mahananda and Chel from NF Railway in Siliguri-Bongaihoan guage conversion project.
  3. Order for pile foundation and substructure work for Metro Railway extension from Tollygung to Garia.

21. Major highlights relating to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) are as under:-

    1. BHEL successfully completed Stage-II of the Khaperkheda Thermal Power station in Maharashtra, comprising two units of 210 MW each, thereby adding 420 MW of power to the grid.
    2. BHEL won the prestigious ‘Golden Peacock National Quality Award' for the year 2000 for its Power Sector –Northern Region.
    3. A prestigious contract was received for supply of equipment for one unit of 250 MW for Suratgarh Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Rajasthan to be commissioned in a tight schedule of 29 months. With this orders, BHEL has maintained is 100% share in setting up coal-based power stations in Rajasthan.
    4. Order for five eco-friendly Battery Powered Road Vehicles (BRPV) for ferrying visitors in National Zoological Park at Vadodara in Gujarat. BHEL has already executed order for 225 BRPVs in the current fiscal for energy Development Agencies of various states..
    5. Largest ever order from Lakshadweep Administration for seven Grid Interactive Solar Photovoltaic (SPV), Power Plants of 100 KW capacity each. The eco –friendly Project valued at Rs.18crore is to be jointly funded by the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, Government of India and Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
    6. India has joined a select band of countries like America, Germany and Japan, with the successful in house development of an eco-friendly power generation technology (Fuel Cell Technology) by BHEL, suitable for stand alone power generation in remote areas. The breakthrough has been achieved by successfully developing, testing and demonstrating a 50KW "Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell" power pack for the first time in the country. This technology converts chemical energy, inherent in a fuel, into electricity with a much higher efficiency compared to conventional energy conversion technologies existing today and is expected to emerge as a major source of pollution free power in the 21st century.
    7. Among Public and Private Sector Companies, BHEL has bagged the prestigious CII-Exim Award (2000) for business Excellence conforming to global standards. BHEL has emerged as the only public sector enterprises to have won this coveted award, instituted jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Exim Bank.
    8. BHEL has commissioned the second hydro generating set in a record time a Gerussapa Hydro Electric Project in Karnataka, thereby adding 60 MW to the State Grid, one month ahead of schedule. The World Bank – funded project of Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd., will have a cumulative capacity of 240 MW on completion.
    9. BHEL’s electroporcelain Division at Bangalore has been awarded the coveted ISO –14001 certification from Det Norske’ Veritas (DNV), Norway for attaining excellence towards protection & continual improvement of environment and conservation of natural resources. With this, 8 plants of BHEL have been awarded the prestigious ISO-14001 certification.
    10. An order for setting up a 23 MW Captive Power Plant on EPC basis was received from Aditya Cement Limited – a unit of Grasim industries of the Aditya Birla Group, near Udaipur in Rajasthan. The plant is expected to go on stream in a very tight schedule of 18 months.
    11. BHEL achieved a major breakthrough in Australia by securing a prestigious export order involving three Gas Turbine generating units. The order, valued at Rs. 280 crore, has been placed on BHEL by an Australian subsidiary of AES Corporation, USA and the supplies for the project will be completed in a fast track schedule by July, 2002.
    12. BHEL secured a prestigious contract for setting up one unit of 195 MW at Kota Thermal Power Station in Rajasthan. The contract valued at Rs. 293 crore received from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. ( RVUNL) will be executed by BHEL in the shortest ever time schedule of just 25 months.
    13. BHEL has bagged the Main Plant Package order valued at Rs. 2079 crore from NTPC for 2x500 MW Rihand Super Thermal Project (Stage II) in Uttar Pradesh under International competitive Bidding (ICB). The orders will be executed by mid - 2005.
    14. The company also bagged an order from NTPC valued at Rs. 1106 crore for setting up a 500 MW unit a Ramagundam Super Thermal Power Project in Andhra Pradesh. The project is targeted for commissioning in a tight schedule of just 42 months.
    15. BHEL paid 30% dividend to it shareholders amounting to Rs.73.43 crore for fiscal 2000-01, maintaining its track record of paying dividendto its shareholders uninterruptedly for the last 25 years. (BHEL achieved a net profit of Rs.312.60 crore during the financial year 2000-01 ). A cheque amounting toRs.49.73 corre, corresponding to the equity, (67.72%) held by the Government of India , was presented to Shri Manohar Joshi, Hon’ble Union Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises on 10th October, 2001 by Shri KG Ramachandran, CMD, BHEL, at New Delhi.
    16. BHEL has achieved a major landmark with the successful commissioning of the first ever 124 MW ISO rated Gas Turbine based power plant for Bangladesh Development Board in Baghabari, Bangladesh on turnkey basis.

  1. Engineering Project (India) Ltd. (EPI) secured orders for six projects valued at Rs. 115.47 crore. Three of the Projects relate to improvement in infrastructure viz. Urban Local Bodies of Gulbarga, Belgaum and Bangalore Revenue Divisions of Karnataka (Rs. 103.64 crore) and the other three minor projects relate to civil works (Rs. 11.83 crore).
  2. Government has approved proposal for financial restructuring of EPI and its participation in overseas projects.
  3. EPI has secured two projects valuing Rs. 73.05 crore, namely, construction of 200 Bed Hospital expansion & Services at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health Medical Sciences, Shillong and construction of various Building in Sardar Vallabh Bhai Agricultural & Technological University Modipuram, Meerut (UP).
  4. Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC) has been given CAPEX award for its outstanding export performance in 1999 –2000. HPC exported 12147 tonnes of paper valued at about Rs. 27 crore to Bangladesh , Sri Lanka, Egypt and Mynmar.
  5. Government has approved a proposal for reservation of orders by BSNL in favour of Instrumentation Ltd. to the extent of 10% of their requirement of MAX-XL Telephone lines each year for a period of three years, Initial order for Rs 28.85 crore (provisional) has since been received by IL from BSNL.
